CHANT OF COMPASSION
AND
REPENTANCE
Everyone has faults, more or less,
The difference lies in remorse or blindness.
Life is a vast sea of distress,
Rely on the Dharma to break samsara’s bind.
Namo Buddha accept my repentance
Homage to Buddha
Homage to Dhamma
Homage to Shanga
Accept my repentance
I was much ignored
Made many mistakes
Today I repent
Pledge to cease sinning
I with resentment
Used to hate others
Injured or murdered
Destroyed their housing
With insulting words
I hurt people’s mind
I ridiculed them
Hence made them suffered
I with resentment
Badly beat people
My heart was on fire
My face looked evil
Now I turn my back
On my previous sin
With a harrowed heart
I bow to repent
Namo Buddha accept my repentance
I was so greedy
Despoiled from others
Or lived selfishly Causing damages
I with my desires
Tried to keep too much
But used so little
Although my folk’s straits
I, for enjoyment
Wasted on myself
Thoughts not of others
Those who were in need
Who knows I might have
Deluded others
Thus harmed their whole life
Sins kept piling up
Now I turn my back
On my previous sins
With a harrowed heart
I bow to repent
Namo Buddha accept my repentance
I was quite naive
Mistook wrong for right
Running after life
With a twisted mind
No sublime purpose
Thought of evil things
Kept on scrambling
Life was meaningless
I doubted Karma
Reincarnation
Kept committing crimes
Shifting to the dark
Ignored Buddhism
And marvelous saints
Hence I spent my lives
Chasing vanity
Now I turn my back
On my previous sins
With a harrowed heart
I bow to repent
Namo Buddha accept my repentance
I was too prideful
Looked down on people Quickly criticized
To feel I was good
In my arrogance
I sought other’s faults
And said hurtful words
With a great disdain
I, with small success
Thought myself perfect
Thus fed my ego
With my foolish pride
A prideful one would
Easily get mad
Strongly desire lust
Hardly be controlled
Now I turn my head
To perceive Karma
With my harrowed heart
I bow to repent
Namo Buddha accept my repentance
Homage to Buddha
Many lives in sin
Now that I repent
With my faithful heart
Follow Buddha’s path
To love everywhere
Be my heart a sea
Of the boundless ease
Let my love become
Buddha’s compassion
To all the corners
In this Universe
Overcome all feuds
So that forever
No bad ties in life
The heart stays at peace
Widen our heart
Like the spacious sky
To light up this life
With warm compassion
Namo Buddha Infinite Compassion
Even the strangers
I have crossed paths with
But didn’t know at all
Let me love them too
Those who hate me much
Even drove me to
Bad desperation
Let me love them too
With the elderly
Whose life nears the end
Enough ups and downs
Let me love them all
Lovely small children
With unknown future
Look at life oddly
Let me love them all
Pledge my heart to love
All the disabled
Who lack blessings and
Live in infliction
Namo Buddha Infinite Compassion
May Buddha help me
Turn my heart into
A sea of kindness
To love animals
The birds in the sky
Are flying somewhere
And jumping out there
Hardly seeking food
The wild animals
Live in deep forests
And hide in dark caves
Just lead a dull life
Aquatic beings
Trying to survive
Eat one another
Make existence tough
Let me love them all
Wish they get out of
Low status of lives
Then get enlightened
Namo Buddha Infinite Compassion
Those who passed away
And yet still wander
Forests or rivers
A long street’s corners
Spirits who have been
Living morally
Giving up themselves
For their Fatherland
Spirits who have been
Living very wrong
Showing no mercy
Just causing sorrow
Spirits who have been
Foolish and selfish
Even passed away
Still being cruel
May my compassion
Illuminate them
Help them leave behind
All of the miseries
Namo Buddha Infinite Compassion
I wish all beings
Love one another
Stop causing the pain
Leave no more feuding
Everyone’s alert
To their inner thoughts
Stops hurting others
By their resentment
When crossing someone
Build only good ties
With love and kindness
This life to the next
May all beings love
And help each other
For the sake of bliss
In limitless lives
Universe really
Is nothing but love
Enlightenment is
Space of compassion
Namo Buddha Infinite Compassion
