Why Should People Meditate?
Meditation helps concentrate the mind to be pure, calm, wise, and free of thoughts or sentiments. It especially helps the practitioner eliminate ignorance and selfishness to attain enlightenment.
At a low level, meditation is considered a mental exercise or mental hygiene that helps people relieve their stress. It is also a trend toward meditation that many places worldwide are researching. Many countries have brought the practice of meditation into schools and prisons. Followers of other religions also study and practice it, too.
At a high level, meditation is considered the practice of the philosophy of happiness because the peace of our mind is more significant than any of the world's pleasures. Meditation is also regarded as the key to increasing one's ability in many ways, such as mental power, intuition, and miracles that begin to be studied seriously.
That will inevitably happen because meditation is the future of humans. It will help them become new and more advanced as the power of their mind is developed and used with miracles.
However, Buddhist meditation doesn’t stop at the level of miracles. Its ultimate goals are enlightenment, liberation, non-self, and Nirvana. The Buddha became the Perfectly Enlightened One through meditation. Therefore, as practicing His teachings, we must thoroughly understand His method, diligently practice it, and spread meditation to the world.
We hope many people can practice meditation to calm their minds, become pure and selfless, and bring peace to the world.
The Fundamental Elements That Support the Practice of Meditation
To achieve good results from meditation, we should first prepare the three fundamental foundations: virtue, merit, and qigong.
Virtue is the purity of mind, infinite reverence for the Buddha, boundless love for all beings, and utmost humility.
Merit is what we get when we bring happiness and morality to people.
Qigong helps keep our inner energy in the lower body so that our brains remain stable in meditation.
Before meditating, you should spread out a mat larger than a seat. It can be a thin cushion, a sedge mat, or something made of thick fabric. This will help you avoid moisture from the ground and feel more comfortable.
Don’t dress tightly or improperly. A Buddhist robe is most suitable if you are in a Buddhist shrine or any holy place.
A meditating room should be light enough but not so bright or dim. Avoid the wind that blows straight to your back, if any. A quiet place is most appropriate for meditation.
Your meditation practice should be scheduled every day. If this is impossible, choose any time that is convenient for you. Don’t meditate when you are full.
Don’t feel proud or let others know you are practicing meditation, as this will disturb your mind. Meditate where no one can see you, except when you do it with others...
